As a result of an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past week, the Victorian Government has imposed new restrictions which come into effect from 11.59pm tonight (27 March 2021) across all of Victoria. The government has indicated that this lockdown will extend for seven days until 11.59pm Thursday 3 June.
There will only be five reasons to leave home:
- Shopping for necessary goods and services
- Care giving and compassionate reasons (including to access health care)
- Exercise (limited to 2 hours per day)
- Authorised work and permitted education
- To get vaccinated
The government has indicated that dental practitioners are authorised health service providers and are permitted to undertake procedures and surgical treatment in the management of patients with urgent needs that include:
- facial swelling
- intra-oral swelling
- facial trauma
- dental trauma
- significant/constant/uncontrollable pain.

COVID19 Update Feb 2021
As you are aware the Victorian State Government has introduced New ‘Circuit Breaker Actions’ to restrict the spread of COVID 19 from 11.59pm 12th February.
The Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch has issued the following advice for all dentists in the public and private sectors.
“Procedures and surgical treatment undertaken by dentists in the management of:
i. patients with obvious facial swelling due to infection i.e. vestibular swelling (no trismus), facial swelling (with trismus); or
ii. facial trauma; or
iii. severe unrelenting pain.
Dentists should only provide emergency care within the framework described above.”
MHT Dentistry has contacted the majority of patients with appointments in the latest Victorian lockdown to re schedule appointments following 17th February when the current restrictions are due to be lifted.

MHT Dentistry have introduced additional measures to ensure patients and staff stay safe.
Patients are being asked to report and not attend their appointment if they have any of the following symptoms:
Fever / Cough / Sore throat / Shortness of breath
We have implemented additional cleaning and hygiene protocols:
Frequently touched surfaces including our waiting areas, reception desk and door handles are being thoroughly disinfected multiple times a day.
We have removed any toys, magazines and other unnecessary items from our waiting rooms.
Social distancing within our waiting and reception areas has been introduced and hand sanitiser is available to all patients upon arrival.
